If you control it - It will Cut

Injuries in sports are inevitable. It’s how an athlete comes back that becomes the real story. Yes, injury can bring a halt to momentum and excitement. Especially when a rookie with great star potential such as Blake Griffin of the Los Angeles Clippers is just starting his career as a professional ball player. And it can even haunt a young player for a great deal of time at the start like it is doing for 2007 Number 1 overall NBA draft pick, Greg Oden (who gets to watch the man who was picked behind him be discussed as an MVP candidate for the 2009-10 season).

side bar – how does a portland GM sleep at night. And for the record, I don’t care what anyone says, the reason why Joe Dumars works so hands on to this day is because of the sleep he looses after that infamous decision back in 2003 (even though he has a title to show you to retort – he is having nightmares). Besides, Larry Brown deserves more credit for making that team work than Joe.

Back to the subject at hand – The Griffins and the Odens of the world – shouldn’t stay down (emotionally nor physically). They should let there Kinetic energy move, because it is inevitable – but focus on the way it moves on the way to recovery.

Speed is your worst enemy in these times of recovery, and it is known that the powers that be are the one’s encouraging it. Especially if you are a franchise player “responsible” for filling seats. Oh they won’t tell you that up front – but it is in the back of there smile.

Remember that the value you hold will never expire. As you nourish your skill levels you control your destiny. Don’t let your kinetic go crazy to soon.

But when your potential is ready to move, slice through that air with certainty!

What if we all were to keep our mouths closed and had our focus on our own bodies of water. I would love to posses the humility that exists no matter how small I seemed to be to someone else and humbled by my mistakes without anyone seeing me trip.

I challenge not only my facebook friends but myself to put down the “i tripped but you fell mentality” and wear the hat of another human.

Endorse your own mistake with your peers when they need another human’s support in their time of flaw.

It is a human quality  and it is defined as understanding. I endorse understanding, because your mistakes would most likely be my mistakes if I were in your shoes. In-fact your mistakes are probably my mistakes and I barely know who you are.

It boils down to this my friends – If you are concerned with how your kids are being influenced by the Tiger Woods and Jay-Z’s of the world because of their stature or accomplishments–Learn how to teach without persecution.

Keep your mouth off business that is not yours and you will avoid looking hypocritical.

Trust yourself as someone who is enough to be heard and study your Bible.

The truth will prevail and the righteous will be rewarded.

Gilbert Arenas is a classic basketball player. His fundamentals are very advanced…unfortunately he has been sidelined with injuries that has limited movie like attributes. The most marketable attributes amongst Gilbert the basketball player is his personality…WHERE HAS IT GONE!

Gilbert is one of those player that needs that niche to display his personality. His personality is what is believed to fuel his game “changing play” on the basketball court.

Most players need to express their personality on the basketball court. Most players use tatoos – Dennis Rodman would dye his hair. Artest with the illustrated haircuts.

Gilbert needs something – He has great potential – He tried with his blog before he got hurt but it did not sustain itself.

DON’T GIVE UP ARENAS!!!

Meditate on this – the stop and go nature of the game has spent your energy to the point when your instinctive skills have decreased to a embarrassing low. You went from a 100% black to a 20% gray. The thing about it – the “gradient” of the game fades into a lighter shade as the game tires. Now that the game has a lighter shade of gray – the workers now emerge into the foreground.

It is now the off-season. Most players do practice in the off-season – some work – few work hard.

What if practice was our day jobs – and we treated our off time as the stage in which we perform. What if the off time was the stage where success is measured. What if thats how we graded ourselves.

Not only do I like this song but I really like the video. It reminds me that hip hop can still be stylish in a clean way without falling in a stereo type of tackiness but still maintain it’s integrity of the “street.”

Sure endorsements are important. Having a social personality can help a person meet the right people. Getting in or getting recruited are goals when putting on the humble hat.

When it comes to getting the job done – “it’s me against the world,” mentality – that seems to get it done the best.

For some reason when someone feels like nobody is going to like them no matter what they do – that person is freed to do what that person loves the most.

Without the pressure of being “Mr. or Mrs. personality, a player is motivated to dedicate themselves to THEIR game. Because that game is the only approval they can turn to. And success is the only way the game can affirm it’s approval. There is very little gray area when it comes to the confirmation from the game – (wins or losses – execution or failure).

givereceiveTo give or receive…
…as long as you are making a play!

striderightThere is a thought of reading a person’s sense of self value from the way that person walks. That walk is sometimes referred to as swag in the hip hop community. And as well as the hip hop culture, swag is very apparent in most NBA players.

On the court, say a Chris Paul, will be recognized as soon as he walks through the tunnel to his locker room before a game that day. And his swag will be noticed. He is assured with his worth during that moment. Mr. Paul knows his play making abilities will be unmatched by his opponent and is sure it will not go without applause and cheers.

Don’t all person’s need that stage of showmanship – to display their worth. And once it is found how much of that stage do we need to feel a security in our own abilities.

And like NBA players – all human’s have off seasons and contracts. And most of us don’t have any control with in those contracts and off seasons. Like many of these players on the roster of these huge franchises – “we” hang in the balance – waiting to see where we end up. Some of “us” fill certain rolls that are no longer valued in this day in age.

And then there are the few players who have the options of opting out – to a better offer. Those few people have the true “SWAG.” They know that if they feel the “crowd noise” isn’t sufficiently supporting their worth – then they can find somewhere else that will build a bigger house to stuff more people in to support the worth of their magisterial abilities.

In this economy – there are very few places that will do that – and if they can – they will only elect one who is that worthy. This society does not spread the wealth.

So “we” must build our own – And then figure out how to become worthy within ourselves.

thumbnailWho is a professional player who has peace? A neophyte who has time to reflect on one’s game and improve upon those new discoveries? A player who steps on the floor with respect for the game but then plays with a spirit of, “well I’ve got nothing to lose but a whole lot to prove.”

I thought if this ball player did exist he or she would definitely be playing in the NBA summer league. (And since we now know I am referring to the NBA, I’m going to drop the political correctness of my usage of pronouns). I know I strive for that discipline.

The disciple to improve my talent as it is a talent through the challenges of the realness of the world we live in. With the cost of living rising – my pockets are thinning and responsibilities Increasing. Health insurance goes up – New responsibilities .

We excel at things that have templates and rules – like sports or academics. If only I can create my own template and believe in it enough to practice my skills within that template – So badly – I think of dropping everything and impress the big spenders – impress the NBA owners and the CEO’s and the Royal art investors. Go for the million!

If  I can only–No – I will! “I have nothing to loose, but a whole lot to prove!” Because even though I have done everything asked of me under this template of the corporate world – I was still laid off.

This is for you son – “Stand like a wise veteren – and play like a resilient rookie.”

Sometimes I feel like this subject in a painting called, “The Colossus.” It is a beautiful painting done my a painter named Sandor Camille. The subject was a boxer in the 20′s I believe. there is so much texture that is visible in this large scale work of art. But since boxing does not create the same roar today as it did in those days, I relate even more to the gladiator of our times – For me, the arena is basketball.

Think about how many people all across the world, of just about every age that can walk, and of both sexes that play this game as if it had rules that did more than just create boundaries but groom respect. Not only respect for your opponent – but for yourself – especially if you were the victor.

But there is one stage that generates the same roar as gladiators did some time ago in the boxing ring – The NBA. – the world of basketball players dwindles down to less than 400 men. And we only remember a handful of those.

Those men that venture into the status of, “The Colossus.”

Sometimes I feel victorious in this way.
